Over the years we have been fortunate enough to have many Peregrine images available to share with you. Here are a few, in rather random order, but all enjoyable and sure to bring back memories for long-time watchers.
Rudy's Breakfast. Photo courtesy of Carol Comeau:
Carol Comeau, a teacher at Baywood Elementary in Los Osos, arrived at school around 7:40 the morning of Thursday, March 8th. She noticed a Peregrine Falcon
feeding on the playground blacktop, just 50 feet away from the building. She was kind enough to share the photos with us. This is what she wrote:
"I thought all you birders would enjoy this story. On Thursday as I walked up the stairs to the black top outside my class I noticed white feathers everywhere. I turned to my right and realized I was 50 feet away from a Peregrine munching on a seagull. I went to get the digital camera and then got to enjoy the sight for 45 minutes. Lots of kids started showing up and we quietly observed the Peregrine from about 50 feet. Finally when the crowd reached about 100 the bird decided to fly. Of course all the children ran to see the seagull, and they were enthralled by its decapitated head and body with guts hanging out. Needless to say, there were not many seagulls hanging around on Thursday or Friday. Normally the sky rats are everywhere hoping to steal tidbits from left over lunches. The event was so exciting we wrote a little article about it for the school newsletter."
